Creating a digital voting platform that unites the country's various consumer associations and makes it easier and safer to conduct democratic elections was quite a challenge for the Cooperative Union (KF).

The Cooperative Union has offered its members digital voting for some time now. In the elections, members can nominate and vote for owner delegates who represent them in the area. However, there have been differences depending on which association one belongs to, and not all associations have had any candidates. "We wanted to make it easier for members to understand how the election is conducted and also for it to be easier to stand as a candidate and vote in an election," says Fanny Persson, who works in the steering group for the voting platform.
Our journey consisted of making it easier for members to understand as well as to stand as candidates and vote in the elections. It is also about where Coop and KF want to be. Previously, parliamentary elections were conducted with paper votes in the stores, sometimes printed on poor printers. On one hand, voting should be easy, and on the other hand, Coop KF wants to maintain its competitiveness by making it easy to be a member.
Nordlo delivers a customised voting platform where the goal is for all associations to use the same platform for their shareholder representative elections. The development of KF's voting platform has been an agile process where we have worked closely with the customer. Since KF consists of many associations with different needs, flexibility and communication have been a central part of the development work.

With you, we haven't experienced being courted during the development phase but then forgotten. We feel that you are genuinely interested in our development, regardless of whether we have a long list for development and a large wallet or not,” says Fanny Persson.
In addition to the development of the election platform, Nordlo manages the system and ensures that it is developed and improved together with KF. Through regular management meetings, KF has a structure that facilitates for everyone working on the project. This helps prevent excessive handling during each meeting, and makes the system less overwhelming to develop.
In connection with the update of the election platform, the Cooperative Union chose to transfer the intranet of the owners' representatives and a personal database to Nordlo, as they felt they were not receiving the desired attention from the previous supplier.

Since the latest election, participation has increased to 2.4% of the members. It may seem like a low figure, but it is comparatively high. (The latest election of the Church of Sweden had about 18% participation). KF also experiences that the fresher and more digital the experience is, the more young people vote, which has been one of their goals. Through our agreement, KF has the security of knowing that it is possible and easy to make updates to the system. It is about Nordlo being familiar with KF's operations and how it works.

We want it calm, stable, and secure. That is much more important than having a super mega trendy system that cannot be managed.”, concludes Fanny.
