Falköping Municipality is implementing significant changes in elderly care with the establishment of new residences, the latest addition being Tåstorp Elderly Home focused on dementia care. The objective was to gather a highly competent workforce in the same location and create an environment that offers a safe and secure stay with stimulation and activities in a homely setting, which required a well-functioning IT environment where Nordlo, as the contracted supplier, played an important role.

In Falköping municipality, significant changes are currently taking place in elderly care, including the establishment of new residences, the latest being the completion of Tåstorp elderly home, which is focused on dementia care. The accommodation was previously spread across several geographical locations within the municipality, but the goal has been to instead gather a highly competent workforce in one single location.
In conjunction with the new construction, the municipality wanted to create an environment that offers a safe and secure stay where users receive stimulation and are offered activities in combination with a homely environment to increase comfort and reduce care needs as a result. A central part of the work was to establish a well-functioning IT environment, where Nordlo, as the contractual provider, played an important role.
Nordlo has provided the staff with new computers, delivered and installed AV equipment, as well as installed a printer solution. The AV equipment consists of screens and equipment for conference rooms, a projector and control panel for training rooms, along with equipment for wireless image transmission in the form of Barco ClickShare, while digital information screens are managed and scheduled with the help of the platform Playipp.
To enhance the quality of living, a number of different digital solutions have been developed, for example, video conferencing equipment in one of the conference rooms where users can have digital contact with their relatives living farther away. Another solution is that each department has a screen connected to Apple TV where customised news can be displayed instead of the routine viewing of news segments that report negative events which may cause anxiety among dementia patients.
One example of a solution developed for the staff is intelligent thermal cameras in the rooms that detect abnormal behaviours and alert when necessary, thereby avoiding the risk of a resident encountering incidents. The staff also have access to alarm functions and information about medication administration via their phones, while there is a screen in the entrance that provides general information to visitors and digital screens on each department that inform about the day's activities and menu.
"We are both proud and happy to have contributed products and services to Tåstorp and Falköping municipality. It is also pleasing that even in public services, there is a willingness to invest in creating a functional digital everyday life. It has been interesting to assist Falköping municipality in developing technology that smartly increases safety for the residents, and also simplifies the workday for the staff," says Jesper Berg, Nordlo in Skaraborg.
The technical solutions are used in a smart way and make life easier for everyone; they also provide security and protect privacy. We are incredibly satisfied with the results of the collaboration and with the solutions that have been developed.
For the staff, daily work has been simplified through digitalised and more efficient working methods and new information solutions. Information screens in the staff rooms display personnel information as well as resource and staffing schedules, while there is a central information screen that informs employees when they arrive at work where they should work and their current tasks.
“Tåstorp can, with Nordlo's help, offer a fantastic environment for both staff and users. The technological solutions are used in a smart way and facilitate life for everyone; they also provide security and respect for privacy. We are incredibly pleased with the results of the collaboration and with the solutions that have been developed,” says Kerstin Jangbrand, unit manager at Falköpings municipality.
Falköping Municipality, with just over 33,000 residents, is beautifully situated between the plateau mountains of Mösseberg and Ålleberg. To meet future demands for elderly care, the decision was made to develop the care services, including Tåstorp's nursing home. Tåstorp nursing home consists of eight care units, 80 long-term care apartments, ten short-term care apartments, and day services. A total of nearly 100 people work at Tåstorp.
