A partnership that
enables development
at all levels for Sokigo
Sokigo is market leader in Sweden in the field of business-oriented geographical IT. They deliver digitalisation services to municipalities, government agencies and the forestry industry, offering a wide range of services that are often customised.
Through their delivery of unbroken digitalisation chains to many Swedish municipalities, Sokigo’s services and products contribute to a simpler decision-making process in everything from building permits to zoning plans and area plans. Sokigo customises many of its deliveries, and this requires a competent and engaged delivery unit, which Sokigo possesses. But to be market leader in its field and enable continued development, Sokigo wanted to find a business partner. This was where Nordlo came into the picture, as partner and supplier of IT infrastructure, operations, and support.
“We work with IT, but Nordlo is actually our IT department, and in effect they’re just like our own employees – they know our business inside out and are always there for us.”
A partner in development
Over the many years of the partnership between Sokigo and Nordlo, a totally new platform for infrastructure has been implemented, as well as a number of different development projects to continuously improve security and be well-equipped to face a threat scenario that is constantly changing, and also to implement more efficient processes using automation.
Activities include segmentation to define which servers are to communicate with each other, and hardening, but also using automation to exclude the human factor in repetitive tasks and guarantee a process that looks the same every time. More efficient processes also mean that Nordlo has reviewed the way Sokigo connects to the environment, ensuring that it is sufficiently secure, and that it is flexible and adapted for Sokigo’s employees and the way they work.
Both the creation of and migration to the new environment, combined with improvement projects, have resulted in an IT environment with a high level of security and availability that makes better use of the infrastructure.
“At present, we don’t have the competence or the resources to manage our entire IT environment, so Nordlo helps us with everything from data centres and servers to workstations. And there’s such an incredible amount of new things going on in the industry, not least in the field of security, and we can’t be experts at everything. We need a partner we can work and develop with,” says Mikael Pettersson, CIO at Sokigo.

Local storage
For Sokigo’s customers, which are often municipalities and government agencies, it is important, if not crucial, that data is in Sweden. Mikael Pettersson, CIO of Sokigo, also considers it a benefit for their own operations that storage remains within Sweden’s borders. The further the geographical distance, the greater the risk that events such as natural disasters, other crises or conflicts might cause problems. Another benefit of storage in Sweden is, of course, that sites can be reached quickly if the need arises.
Developing together
What has created the greatest value for Sokigo is the collaboration with Nordlo and the development that this enables in the close cooperation. A large, joint project was implemented some time ago for one of Sokigo’s customers, in which a VDI environment was commissioned that had to handle heavy applications such as CAD programs, as well as a secure, seamless authentication solution to enable the right people to have access to the right base data.
“It’s important that we have a partner we can work together with, only then can we utilise all the competence that both companies possess. This has been by far the most important parameter in choosing our IT operations provider,” concludes Mikael Pettersson, CIO at Sokigo.
